    Hi, did this sort your issue? I too bought a new drive WD PURPLE 1TB surveillance Har Drive but it just cuts the unit out when attached.

    Found that if you go into the settings you can factory reset it and then the HD will mount and work. Just worked for me anyway

    FIXED: The DVR came with 2 power adaptors. Both 12 volt. One for the cams.. and one for the DVR. I had them switched. The one for the DVR is more a square shape. Once I swithch them the HDD was up and running.
