Camera that can view car registration plates

Hello and I am sure after a Month of nothing answered here you must have found another solution to your issue. However if not I will answer your question and while it might not be what you are asking for it is going to be the best plan.
1, Camera used for capturing plates are not always well suited for full access to the area of Interest. What do I mean? Well a camera that can capture plates will need to have settings at night that are very dark and are pointed in the Region of Interest to a very fine point. This can be done with a PTZ camera or a Zoom Camera or a Fixed High MM Lens camera. Then you will need to make sure that the camera has a Good and Fast CPU and RAM and has the ability to run at least 30FPS or better. Also there will be some changes to the cameras settings that will need to be done and if the camera don't offer them type of settings you will not get good results at night. to be Honest a LPR or a ANPR camera would be the best choice as these cameras come most times with your settings already setup and only need to tweak the cameras placement and the settings outside of that are setup for best results day or night. a Good LPR or ANPR will have a 8-22mm Mortorized lens. It could even be better then that like 8-32mm. My LPR is 8-20mm and for the area of interest I have it setup for what I am guessing is about 17mm as there is no real way to know for sure without the camera having a Manual set lens with numbers. My old LPR came with a 20mm lens that was not wide enough and the Lens I changed it out to was 16mm. This camera is a Box camera with a C/CS lens from many years old TECH. My newer one has a Up the Coax Zoom that I can just use zoom on PTZ controls to get to the right area in the street. Then you need to have it placed at the right height, right distance and in an area where the Vehicle slows down or stops for best results. However most LPR or ANPR cameras will have a Max Speed where it can capture plates.
Then you will want to have a camera that is going to be a General Use camera that is also in the same area of view. This camera would be used to capture the whole scene and not for plates. This way you can use the captured plate info with the second cameras info to have a total picture of what was going on not just the plates. Keep in mind there are some ANPR cameras that can do both where it will capture Plates and Vehicle data along with person data. However these types of cameras are very costly and not normally in the scope of a Home user. Seeing the cameras cost normally over 1500 Then you will need to have the Recorder that would be designed to store and decompile the data and would even give you the ability to setup a Good and Bad list for known vehicles. This can then be setup to open gates or garage doors and the like.

Also while you have not returned to reply on if you found a solution or not I thought I would post 1 more thing that might help you or others who might read this thread.
Using a camera of good quality with a Optical Zoom lens even without all the software built into the camera can work for capturing LP. Here is a Picture that is from a 2mp camera that is connected to a DVR and the camera has a 5-50mm zoom lens. This camera is kind of special because it also has Preset ability and can be handy when using it with this type of setup. Buying a Blue Iris single camera use if all you want is the ability to capture plates or using it for many different cameras to add extra backup of the area of view. Either way here is a Picture from my 2mp camera that is at about 18mm setting for the Zoom.. Now you can see that Bi says it knows for fact this is 99% the number of the plate. I will tell you that it was in fact 100% the plate number however I did mark out some of it for public safety. However it shows in the Plate area, In the Vehicle area and in the Listing area the plate number. Also if you look at the listing on the left in the picture you can see the one that captures the plate is called RoadMain and in that list is another camera called 4xzoom that is looking at the same area as my 5-50mm camera where you can see the area of interest from another camera. That 4xzoom camera is a 4mp mini PTZ camera.
