This guide breaks down the true architecture of how these channels are mapped, how the hardware limits them, and how to configure them without losing your settings.
1. The Hardware Limitation: Why "All Channels" is a Myth
On almost all Annke hybrid DVRs, the packaging might say "8-Channel Smart Playback" or "Human & Vehicle Detection," but the internal Digital Signal Processor (DSP) chip has limited processing power.

The Processor Bottle-Neck: Analyzing video frames in real-time to distinguish a human or car from a blowing leaf takes massive processing power.

The Hardware Rule: On a standard Annke 8-channel hybrid DVR (using analog BNC cameras), the hardware processor can usually only run SMD on 4 specific analog channels (usually Channels 1 through 4) or sometimes only 2 specific channels at maximum resolution.

A. Analog (BNC) Channels: Local Processing
For traditional cameras connected via coax cables, the DVR’s internal processor does 100% of the heavy lifting.

If you take advantage of the "Hybrid" mode and add IP cameras over your network, the rules change completely.

The Setup: IP cameras are mini-computers. They do the visual analysis inside the camera itself before sending the video to the DVR.

Reality: If you use compatible Annke/Hikvision IP cameras that have "Smart Event" capability built-in, you can have SMD on every single IP channel you add. The DVR is merely recording the metadata (the "smart" trigger) sent by the camera, which uses virtually zero DVR processor power.

Because firmware updates can slightly alter these limitations, you can find the exact layout of your specific unit by following these steps on your DVR monitor:
